Ownership of a Veterinary Practice
Veterinary practice entities (VPEs) in Alberta can be owned by registered unrestricted individual veterinarian(s) or a corporation. Any corporation participating in the ownership of a VPE (in whole or in part) must have a permit. A corporation within a corporation requires a separate permit.
The Veterinary Profession Act of Alberta specifies the conditions that must be met in order for a corporation to become a registered permit holder of a VPE in Alberta.
- Sole Proprietorship or Partnership - one or more registered unrestricted veterinarians can own a VPE.
- Permit for a Corporation – any corporation participating in the ownership of a VPE (in whole or in part) must have a permit. A corporation within a corporation requires a separate permit.
