The CanWest Conference is an annual activity hosted by the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. It is renowned as the most engaging and informative veterinary event in western Canada.
We offer an extensive educational program with five learning tracks that is designed for the entire animal health care team. The conference offers approximately 6 CE hours each day, and is submitted for AAVSB-RACE approval each year. There are also pre-conference wet-labs on Oct 13/23 at UCVM Spy Hill campus for an additional 8 CE hours.
Registration rates are competitive and include continental breakfast, coffee breaks and lunch each day.
The event is hosted in beautiful Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Join Tracy Keith, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KSA, Fear Free Certified Professional, Department Head of Behaviour and co-founder of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, for an afternoon of learning why dogs are reactive on leash and what you can do about it! In this seminar we will look at why dogs are reactive and how we can change our dog’s reactive behaviour to focusing on the handler and keeping calm at the sight of other dogs, people and more! We will have an in-depth look at the causes of leash reactivity and how we can change, manage and prevent reactive behaviours. How we rehabilitate and prevent leash reactivity will be demonstrated through a combination of lecture, PowerPoint, photos and video.

The Veterinary Profession Act allows for a veterinarian to delegate veterinary medical tasks, except diagnosis, surgery and prescribing treatment, to a registered veterinary technologist (RVT) working under the direction and control of the veterinarian. A registered veterinarian who directs or controls an RVT in the practice of veterinary medicine shall

Prerequisites: Registered Veterinary Technologist
In order to be eligible to enroll in this Advanced Training Certificate Program for Alberta, Registered Veterinary Technologists, you must currently be working under a registered
veterinarian and be a graduated RVT.
After the successful completion of this course, RVTs can perform pregnancy detection in beef cattle using ultrasound, in the province of Alberta. Students are responsible to check other
provinces rules and regulations around RVTs performing ultra-sounding for pregnancy detection when working outside of Alberta. Proficiency of this skill typically takes 100 -200 cases.
