Mixed animal practice CE series: the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is offering an online continuing education (CE) series that’s especially geared for veterinarians and registered veterinary technologists in mixed animal practice — but open to all veterinary teams. WCVM faculty members will provide the educational sessions, which will take place on selected Wednesday evenings in winter and spring 2024. The 90-minute talks begin at 6:30 p.m. CST and include time for questions and discussion. Send questions in advance through the registration form or by emailing myrna.macdonald@usask.ca. Facing pet cancer is often a devastating and confusing time for pet owners! With 1 in 5 dogs and 1 in 4 cats cited as developing cancer at some point over their lifetime, thousands of pet guardians face the dreaded diagnosis every year.
While there are many wonderful professionals and other helpful organizations available to help support pets facing cancer (such as veterinary and/or oncologist care and financial assistance for treatment), Kali’s Wish Cancer Foundation is the first and only registered charity in Canada solely dedicated to helping pet guardians and their families facing pet cancer and loss.

Tips and Tricks to perform a basic comprehensive ocular examination and interrupt findings. Discussion of the basic ocular examination and diagnostics using tools commonly found in general practice. Learn to use your equipment to its full potential and interrupt findings to aid in diagnosis and treatment. Lecture with practical lab to follow. This ultrasound-guided procedures bootcamp with Drs. Otero, Boysen and Pang will introduce attendees to the wonderful world of ultrasound-guided local blocks. The focus will be on widely applicable blocks to provide effective analgesia for common surgical procedures, including laparotomies and hindlimb procedures. Led by experienced instructors, the 4 hour lab will be highly practical, with each block demonstrated live, followed by ample time for attendees to practice and hone their skills under instructor guidance.
