Open a Practice
The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) is the Professional Regulatory Organization responsible for the practice of Veterinary Medicine in the Province of Alberta, under authority of the Veterinary Profession Act. The ABVMA is responsible for the certification and inspection of veterinary practice entities (VPEs) in Alberta.
VPEs in Alberta can be owned by registered unrestricted individual veterinarian(s), or a corporation. In either structure, 51% of the VPE must be owned by registered unrestricted veterinarian(s). If any of the owners of the VPE is a corporation, the corporation requires a Permit to Practice (see Ownership Structure).
Plan to apply for your new practice at least two months prior to the projected opening date.
