Application Process

Complete Part One of the New Practice Application Form and submit with the application fee. This part of the process is required at least 2 months prior to the proposed opening and must be completed by the owner veterinarian or responsible veterinarian.
Please log out if you are currently logged in under your member portal. The system creates a new portal and application form for the new veterinary practice entity.
Part One - New Practice Application Form -
The proposed practice name will be brought forward to the Practice Inspection Practice Standards (PIPS) Committee for approval. Once the name has been reviewed for consideration and approved by the ABVMA PIPS Committee, the ABVMA office will send written confirmation of approval to the practice owner. We recommend that you do not have stationary printed, signs made or marketing activities, until the name has been approved.

Part two of the application and the Quality Assurance (QA) Guide will become available on the VPE Applicant Portal for completion once the practice name has been approved. Submission of part two of the application is required four weeks prior to the proposed opening date. The completed QA Guide must be presented to the inspector at the time of the pre-opening inspection.

Successfully complete the pre-opening PIPS Inspection. The pre-opening inspection will mainly focus on the physical aspects of the VPE and review medical record and log templates. After review of the PIPS Inspector’s report, the practice will receive verbal or written notice whether or not the practice has provisional approval to open.

The annual PIPS fees (and, if applicable, the radiation fee) will be collected after successful completion of the pre-opening inspection.

The post-opening PIPS inspection will be slated for approximately three to six months after the pre-opening inspection. The post-opening inspection will mainly focus on the day-to-day operations of the VPE and management of medical records and logs.
