In 2018 the Western Canadian Dairy Seminar will be celebrating 36 continuous years of providing novel ideas, information, and solutions relevant to current and emerging challenges of the Canadian dairy industry.
Topics covered in this year’s seminar include the Principles of Farm Management, Nutrition and Replacements, Advances in Genetics and Reproduction and Healthy Cows Produce Healthy Milk.
In addition to the formal program, the seminar offers ample opportunity for participants to have informal discussions with the speakers and with industry service representatives. Register at www.wcds.ca. We hope to see you at the seminar in March.

Mental Health First Aid Certificate Course

MHFA Canada is an evidence based program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. This two day training course is designed, much like the traditional physical first aid, to teach participants how to provide assistance to someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem; until they are connected to professional help. Topics include signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis situations, description of mental health problems such as substance abuse, depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis. 2018 Livestock Care Conference

In 2018, Alberta Farm Animal Care is celebrating it's 25th year as the collective voice of the livestock industry and we would like to invite you to come and celebrate with us at our annual Livestock Care Conference!
We will be hosting a Humane Euthanasia workshop on March 14th before the conference in conjunction with Olds College. This is a fantastic hands-on opportunity with limited space. So get your tickets early!
On the night of the 14th, there will be a reception and dinner so get ready for a night of reflection and entertainment.
The conference on March 15th will be opened with remarks from the founding Executive Director of AFAC, Susan Church, and then kicked off with world-renowned animal welfare advocate Temple Grandin.
There is a thoughtful, inspiring day of speakers from all over Canada planned on the 15th and we hope to see you there!

Humane Euthanasia Workshop

This three-hour AFAC Humane Euthanasia workshop will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and will allow participants to identify and demonstrate humane euthanasia practices and how they are attainable in a farm setting. This will be accomplished with both classroom and lab instruction with rubber heads with replaceable inserts (cattle, swine, and sheep) and poultry with vertebra intact for participants to practice cervical dislocation. Brad McLeod from Olds College will be instructing the ruminant section of the workshop, while Dr. Tom Inglis, BSc Ag, DVM, Dipl. ACPV from Poultry Health Services will be instructing the poultry section.
