Antibiotics are frequently utilized to treat infections of the skin. In the age of enhanced antimicrobial resistance that we now find ourselves, other strategies to manage bacterial skin disease are needed. This talk will cover other possible options for treating pyoderma. One of the areas where small animal veterinarians need to take their role as good stewards of antimicrobials to heart is in veterinary dermatology - this talk will cover some options to help clinicians manage pyoderma without systemic antibiotics. At the request of veterinarians participating in Alberta Milk's Dairy Cattle Lameness Reduction Initiative, the Western Canadian Certified Hoof Trimmers Association is offering a hoof health and trimming clinic designed specifically for dairy veterinarians. The full-day course will be led by 4 trimmers certified as instructors by the Dutch Dairy Training Centre. Enrollment will be limited to provide optimum instructor/student interaction. The goal of seizure management is to reduce or eliminate seizure activity. Join Dr. Holger Volk DVM, PhD, DipECVN, PGCAP, RHEA, MRVCS as he discusses the challenges of treating neurobehavioural changes and the need to manage epilepsy using a multimodal and holistic approach. Dr. Volk’s explores the recommended first line of treatment for controlling seizures in dogs and reveals the results from a new study highlighting how nutrition can play a key role in reducing seizure activity.

The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) announces an invitation to a second demonstration and training session regarding the nasal implantation of RFID microchips in equines. This is an opportunity for equine breeders, owners, Veterinarians, Animal Health Technicians and any interested equine industry professional to learn more about the process of the Rostral Interincisive Canal implant technique. Microchips implanted in this novel location can be found by scanning the nose or upper lip of equines. Attendees will watch a presentation and then be able to view the procedure on live horses, practice the implanttation process, take home printed information and ask questions. Horses will range in ages from foals, two year olds, broodmares, stalions and off the track Thoroughbreds of varying ages.
